I’m a student again. After five years of waiting tables, hawking bread, writing shower curtain and bakeware descriptions, pouring wine, managing a Farmstand, and soliciting food for the hungry, I’m finally a student again. Looking at what I’ve been up to for the past five years it is not at all surprising that I’m in Italy to study gastronomy.
It happens that the classrooms where I study it are in a palace once occupied by Marie Louise, the second wife of Napoleon and the Dutchess of Parma. Every morning I ride the bus with my classmates from Parma to our classrooms in Colorno where we scribble notes and taste chocolates and learn about the sense of smell.
I don’t yet believe that this is real.
